Let’s take a look at five principles that are key to a new grappler’s success on the mat.

Safety: Safety first, they don’t teach jiu-jitsu in the emergency room.
Motivation: Pay attention to the little victories.
Consistency: Aim for two or three days a week, all year round.
Communication: Ask for what we want. Listen for what we need.
